We have 25 weekends until the wedding and have to figure out what is perhaps the most reality-inducing part of this whole endeavor -- the invitations. Right now, I'm having an Etsy conversation with the Vana Chupp of Le Paperie Studio about a self-mailing, trifold invitation with a detachable RSVP postcard featuring a custom silouhette of myself and Lauren. So far, she has been prompt with her replies and receptive to working with a girl/girl couple! Vana has a website, blog and Etsy store.
The best part about her design is that it has inspired a new idea for the wedding reception! We are having lunch in the church basement, then coming back to our house for drinks, dancing and cake in the backyard. Eactly how much fun would it be to set up a silouhette station where people could make their own silhouettes, not to mention shadow puppets? So much fun, that's how much. It would be like a mucho-romantic, super fun, and, best of all, low-tech photobooth. The idea of light and dark has me thinking metaphorically, too, in terms of the wedding vows. Talking about our light and our dark. Talking about how it's the darkness brings meaning to the light. And about sharing those things with one another.
Finally, Vana's designs remind me of Kara Walker's artwork pictured above. Maybe Vana would be interested in making some non-traditional thank you notes? (raised eyebrow, impish grin).
