Blood, Guts and Pizza

When we first started planning this whole wedding thing, Lauren was the stalwart and traditionalist. She wanted $150 per plate. She wanted flowers. A DJ. Something elegant and solemn.

Since our engagement almost twelve months ago, however, things have changed. Finally, last week, she decided that, not only is the reception happening in the basement of the Meeting House, but we are going to eat pizza off of paper plates. And she wants skulls on the invitations.

I think the stress of our jobs blew her fuse. We spend 12-14 hours a day working or commuting to work. She misses me. So, she is now dead set on slashing the wedding budget by 50% and going on a wonderful honeymoon. It's always fun when your partner suddenly perks up about something wedding-related and wants to take charge, so I am more than willing to go along with her idea (I just think we should use the surplus to buy a car -- but that's another post).

Not to mention, I mean, really, our reception has had, like 4 different incarnations since it began. In April, there was the koi pond reception. Two weeks later, the organic reception. In September, it was the breakfast for dinner backyard reception. Then, in September, it was the sad-sack poopy-pants church basement reception. But this week. This week, we are takin' it back. We are owning that basement. This week will be an exploration of Lauren's Blood, Guts and Pizza Bargain Basement Reception!

Yes! You own it! Ours will be basically a church basement reception. Though I wish it was in OUR church basement.....I feel bad that people have to drive across the border....

But pizza sounds good.

The reality between what we could afford and what we wanted for our wedding was very different! It's about YOU, not about the food:)

I am strongly in favor of this plan - if anybody can make pizza and paper plates in a church basement into the awesomest wedding ever, it's you two.

Not only will it be fun, it will feel right.
