A Little Bit Ritual, A Little Bit Las Vegas

As I was going through the engagement shots on-line, trying to figure out which ones to buy, the photos began to tell a story I didn't even see as it was happening. With marriage laws barring us from certain traditions, and our own non-traditional spiritual persuasions, it turns out our tattoo session was more like a wedding than our wedding will be. I mean, think about it. The singular special middle man. The big book of flash. Forms requiring signatures and ID. Blood.

I bought eleven photos from the tattoo shop, which all together, tell the story of a kind of wedding I didnt even know I was having. (Lauren's in charge of ordering the sweet, sun-shining shots and I'll share those when they come, too.)

In this most recent of many photo essays, I present to you "Applying for a License", "At the Altar", and "The Exchanging of the Rings".

I love these photos, they're so moving. Of all of the photos of your engagement session that Punam posted on her blog it was the ones in the tattoo shop that I loved the most. There is something so intimate and powerful about them.

And I love that it becomes so wedding-like in it's symbolism.

Just beautiful!

You are so brave, I would find it hard to get a tattoo.

I love the imagery of the tattoo shop being your wedding.
