In the last post featuring the engagement present, I chronicled his close encounter with a squirrel. This time, unfortunately, the engagement present encountered a car. While Lauren and I were at work on Thursday, Butter was out in the backyard with the landlord, who was hammering or sawing something or other. A friend of the landlord's came over through the fence's back door. Which has a hole in it. Through which the engagement present egressed. Normally, the hole gets covered up by a piece of wood, but this time, the landlord forgot to put it up because he was irritated by his friend.
A dramatic story ensues about strangers riding the dog to the hospital with the landlord in the back of the hatch back holding down a seizing beagle whose bowels had released and ends with a 2,000 veterinarian bill. Actually, the real ending is that the dog is now, 4 days later, almost one hundred percent recovered with just two staples, a little skin graft and no bill because not only do Lauren and I have doggie insurance, but when I told my landlord we had it, he said, "Oh, really?" and I said, "Yeah, why?" and he said, "Because I took out insurance on the dog a couple of weeks ago, because, you know, I just wasnt sure what you had."
The take home messages are: 1.) we love our landlord and 2.) if you're a pet owner planning a wedding, please consider spending the 50 bucks a month for insurance. How devastating to have a smooshed dog *and* no photographer?

Oh no! Poor Butter. I'm glad he's okay. And wow, your landlord is awesome, as is pet insurance.
Awww, poor doggie. I hope he is feeling better. How are your tattoo's feeling??? Those were great pictures.
So glad Butter is okay! So lucky all my landlords were jerks, yours sounds pretty amazing though!
No Photographer? I thought Kelly was doing it?
I feel SO sorry for any dog in an Elizabethan torture device, uh- collar that is. It makes it hard for them to stick their little heads into their bowls to eat and drink. I'm so glad that Butter is on the mend.
oh butter! I'm so glad you have insurance that is so so smart. And your landlord?!? What the Ef? Where did you find him and...well that's very sweet of him. Every dog deserves health care ;)
I just can't get over how much Butter looks like Smellvis...makes my sympathy for the little guy that much more poignant.
